Week 2, Day 3

This morning Sunshine has gotten to try two new foods, each with a little different texture than she had been eating.  The first was oatmeal w/ cinnamon.  She was not thrilled with the sticky texture (it is completely pureed) but ate it fairly well, especially once we put on Baby Signing Time for her "reward".  Her second new texture, during the second session, was banana.  Matt says she did well with that and finished up what was prepared.

Her numbers have been slightly below the "goal" today.  Her first session was 4.6oz total (goal of 6) and her second session was 3.3oz total (goal of 4).  Her therapists say she did a great job though, especially since she was trying out new flavors and textures.

Meanwhile, Buttercup and I had fun doing play dough (roll-a-dough) from our Handwriting Without Tears materials.  She did great and we made lots of letters.

Afternoon update:
Sunshine did much better with her totals this afternoon.  At lunch she reached 6oz, her current "meal time" goal!  And her afternoon snack was 4.3oz (goal of 4oz)!  We figured out that the amount of food and drink being prepared for her was less than it needed to be when you take into consideration the amount lost on the sides of the dish or how much is inaccessible by straw.  Once we increased the amount that was prepared for her, she did great.  She also got to try another new food this afternoon -- butternut squash soup mixed (thickened) with polenta, and she liked it!  Guess I'm going to have to learn some new cooking once we go home.

I'm going to feed her supper tonight, but it looks like we'll only have to tube feed a total of 10oz today!  Yay for eliminating 19oz of her tube feedings!  Tonight we'll experiment with the new blend and see how much it actually makes, because that's all she's going to be getting by tube tomorrow!

***Correction*** We only had to give her 7.5oz of tube feeding today because she did so great at supper time!  She ate/drank 7oz, even though she was tired.  And I mixed up her "adjusted" tube feed and because of the water needed to thin it down it only made 10oz.  She may get all of that tomorrow...or she may not need it. :)

We also got a couple potential dates for when we can return.  They are not set yet and are somewhat contingent on other people's schedules, so please be praying that the right slot opens up for us.
